Cinema Nahualli, the annual film program organized by Nahualli Casa de los Artistas, presented a selection of short and feature films from around the world as part of the Mérida Fest.

From January 15 to 29, Nahualli opened its doors for the first edition of Cinema Nahualli, having its inaugural screening in the audiovisual room of the Olimpo Cultural Center, where it awarded the winners of the “Yucatan Selection”.

The first place winning short film was “Ba’ax K’akaxtik”, by Colectivo Tropivisiones. “Volver sin tí” by Itto Muñoz Carrillo and “Zarigueya” by Mario Galván were awarded second and third place, respectively.

For the International Selection the winner was “Kingdom of Strangers” an Egyptian production directed by Randa Ali, and our winner for the National selection was “El Hechizo de Medusa” by Luis Hernández.

Each of the winners narrated their experiences during the film fest. You can watch their memoirs in our Youtube channel:

As part of the promotion of local cinema and audiovisual production in Yucatán, specialized talks were offered. One of these took place at the Escuela Superior de Artes de Yucatán on January 26th of this year.

We would like to thank all the filmmakers and spectators who were with us in our first edition of Cinema Nahualli and we hope to continue sharing events and enjoying art together.
