From January 22 to May 10, artist Abel Vázquez will present “Alientos y susurros del Mayab” (Winds and Whispers of the Mayab) at the Museo de la Ciudad de Mérida.
The exhibition is dedicated to his work of the last 16 years, in which the master has found in Yucatán a source of inspiration.
Each work includes a QR code, through which the viewer can learn the story behind each canvas and sculpture.
As a complement to the exhibition, Galería Nahualli seeks to enrich the experience with a personalized tour hand in hand with the artist.
Maestro Abel Vázquez was born in Oaxaca in 1959. During his childhood, he learned the trade of cabinetmaker from his father.
He studied and graduated as an artist from the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving “La Esmeralda”, of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico, achieving a multifaceted professional development, dabbling in all variants of the plastic arts.
He produces monumental works as well as easel works; he produces works in bronze, stone, iron and multiple technical variants in resins.
Abel Vázquez’s language is universal and contemporary, showing a thematic handling of the everyday, where his interest in the earth and the spirit stands out.
He shows a natural mastery of materials and color, developing masterfully on all painting techniques, recharging his current craft in acrylics and watercolor.
His works portray magic, mysticism and a deep rootedness for his birthplace. Francisco Moyao said. His work is based on a “phenomenological anthropomorphism”.
As you walk through the exhibition, the artist presents a vast selection of pieces influenced by the fertile southeast, where he has found inspiration for the past 16 years.
